Ground state energy scaling laws during the onset and destruction of the intermediate state in a type-I superconductor

چکیده
The intermediate state of a type-I superconductor is a classical example of energy-driven pattern-formation, first studied by Landau in 1937. Three of us recently derived five different rigorous upper bounds for the ground state energy, corresponding to different microstructural patterns, but only one of them was complemented by a lower bound with the same scaling [Choksi, Kohn, Otto, J. Nonlinear Sci. 14, 119 171 (2004)]. This paper completes the picture by providing matching lower bounds for the remaining four regimes, thereby proving that exactly those five different regimes are traversed with increasing magnetic field.

Energy Minimization and Flux Domain Structure in the Intermediate State of a Type-I Superconductor
The intermediate state of a type-I superconductor involves a fine-scale mixture of normal and superconducting domains. We take the viewpoint, due to Landau, that the realizable domain patterns are (local) minima of a nonconvex variational problem. We examine the scaling law of the minimum energy and the qualitative properties of domain patterns achieving that law. Our analysis is restricted to ...
متن کاملEmpirical Potential Energy Curve for the Ground State of CaH from a Multi-isotopologue Direct Potential Fit Analysis
Vibration-rotation and pure rotational data in the X2Σ+ ground state and electronic data from the A2Π – X2Σ+ and B2Σ+ − X2Σ+ transitions of CaH and CaD were used in the quantum-mechanical direct-potential-fit (DPF) analysis to determine an analytic potential energy function for the X2Σ+ ground state of CaH, and a radial correction function for the CaD isotopologue. The potential energy function...
متن کاملCombined effects of pressure, temperature, and magnetic field on the ground state of donor impurities in a GaAs/AlGaAs quantum heterostructure
In the present work, the exact diagonalization method had been implemented to calculate the ground state energy of shallow donor impurity located at finite distance along the growth axis in GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure in the presence of a magnetic field taken to be along z direction. The impurity binding energy of the ground state had been calculated as a function of confining frequency and mag...
متن کاملI-6: Role of Actin Cytoskeleton during Mouse Sperm Acrosomal Exocytosis
Background: Mammalian sperm must undergo a process termed capacitation to become competent to fertilize an egg. Capacitation renders the sperm competent by priming the cells to undergo a rapid exocytotic event called acrosomal exocytosis that is stimulated by the zona pellucida (ZP) of the egg or progesterone. Over the years, several biochemical events have been associated with the capacitation...
متن کاملبررسی پذیرفتاری مغناطیسی AC در ابررساناهای حجمی (Bi-Pb)2223
The temperature dependence of ac susceptibility of (Bi-Pb)2223 polycrystalline samples was measured as a function of frequency and ac field amplitude. Analysis of the temperature dependence of the AC susceptibility near the transition temperature (Tc) has been done employing Bean’s critical state model. The observed variation of intergranular critical current densities (Jc) with temperature i...
